What is sleep apnea?
- Sleep apnea occurs when a person stops breathing during sleep.
- When you stop breathing, the body goes into panic mode. Imagine your body doing that 60-70 times per hour. Every night. Every week. The overall toll on your body is immense!
Health implications of sleep apnea
- 1 in 7 Americans has sleep apnea.
- No age, sex, race or body type is immune.
- People with less than 6 hours of sleep have a 50% increased risk of obesity.
- Only 5-10% of people are diagnosed, which means 90% are undiagnosed.
- Untreated apnea patients are 3x more likely to die in a car crash.
- Sleep apnea sufferers can feel tired and agitated but don’t understand why.
- The CDC found poor sleep can lead to depression severe enough to be diagnosed as major depression.
